Silk has been regarded as the most beautiful and precious fiber since ancient times. We will consider the reason for this in connection with the physical characteristics of silk, its history, its usage such as dyeing and weaving, and the tradition of sericulture at Ise Jingu and the imperial family. Gunma and Yamagata sericulture farmers and silk mills, and Shiga's musical instrument thread manufacturing site reportage. This is a 76-page special feature.
The last Fudebako of this year, No. 9, has been released. The special feature is "silk".
The true nature of silk is the protein that silk moths spit out. Even with all the science of today, we cannot make fibers that exceed the beauty and function of silk. Especially for Japanese traditional culture. No other ethnic group has the same temperament as the Japanese when it comes to making beautiful silk, that is, keeping silk moths well.
Did you know that after thousands of years of tame, silk moths can't even go looking for food on their own and can't fly even if they become moths? The appearance is nice and divine, but somehow humorous. For silk moths, such silk moths are so cute and irresistible. In Japan, the number of sericulture farmers has decreased sharply due to the low price of cocoons, but the reason for keeping them is "because it's cute". It was an interview that made me feel how precious the silk moths have been for humans, because the people involved call them "silk moths" with honorific titles and count them as "one or two" instead of animals.
Silk products are not uncommon nowadays around you. I would be happy if you could know how it was born and how precious it is.

At the Nihombashi Mitsukoshi Main Store, [Tools Exhibition by Fudebako] was held.
From May 30th to June 5th, 2006, the [Tools Exhibition by Fudebako] was held on the 5th floor of the main building of the Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store in Tokyo.
At the venue, the "tools and way of life" pursued by Fudebako will be visually exhibited with photo panels and videos. In addition, from the interviews so far, the works of four people (Beppu craft bamboo basket, Katsutoshi Mizuno's Tobe white porcelain, Yoshinobu Shibata's Magewappa, Mikiko Yamanashi's Scandinavian handicraft) We sold while introducing the materials and processes.
The talk show by Mitsuyo Kakuta, Mitsuri Kai, and Ichi Kakizawa, who are familiar with the series, was also a great success.
